On Feb. 11 Red Lake District Mat Cats Gymnastics Club hosted their annual fun meet with clubs from Dryden and Kenora joining in for a super fun day.  For some of our youngest participants, this was their first opportunity to be included in a competition.  In order to keep with the fun aspect, the entry level is not ranked against one another and gymnasts are awarded with certificates for their own level of achievement.  Competing at this level for Red Lake were:  Jemma Cooke – beam was best event, Sadie St.Vincent – floor was best event, Naleena Marion – beam was best event, Clara Murphy – bars was best event, Taylor Beardy – floor was best event, Jocelyn Copeman – bars was best event, and Jaqueline Maldonado – bars was best event.

In the intermediate and advanced levels, the girls do compete against each other and our girls sure earned their rewards.

Trinity St.Onge – Silver Medal (beam best event);  Ruby Badiuk – Silver Medal ( vault best event);                      Elizabeth Derkson – Gold Medal (bars best event);  Dyllan St.Jean – Gold Medal (bars best event);              Mia Badiuk – Bronze Medal (floor best event);  Sophie Schaedel – Silver Medal ( beam best event);           Jessie King – Silver Medal ( vault best event).

In addition to the individual competitions, the pre-competitive girls performed a group routine for the entertainment of the audience prior to the first set of awards and the competitive girls provided the entertainment before the second set of awards.  It was a great practise for the girls as these routines will be part of the display at our annual year end show.

“Thanks to Chrissy St.Jean, meet director, and her many helpers the meet was a big success with many happy faces to wrap it all up.  Huge thanks to everyone who provided for the canteen, took pictures, judged, worked before or on the day of the meet.  Volunteers are amazing people!” said Head Coach Laura Arpin this week.
