Balmertown resident and Red Lake Golf and Country Club member Tyler Rolfe will represent the region at the Canadian Men’s Mid Amateur Golf Championship, August 21 to 24 at the Victoria Golf Club in British Columbia.

It came down to a tiebreaker to get into the tournament.

“I played in the Manitoba Men’s Mid Amateur that was held in Falcon Lake July 3 to 5,” Rolfe explained. “I finished tied for 14th. Manitoba is allowed 13 entries into the Canadian Mid Am. Two guys had passed up their spots. So, they held an 18-hole playoff at Bel Acres golf course on July 20th. Three guys played to earn the final two quota spots for Manitoba.”

Rolfe won one of those two spots at the course in Rosser, Manitoba, and now has Victoria and the mid amateur championship in his sights.

“The goal is always to win, but realistically it’s to make the cut and play all four days,” he said. “Top 25… would surpass my expectations.”

According to Golf Canada, since 2009, the winner of the Canadian Mid-Amateur Championship earns an exemption into the RBC Canadian Open.
