Eric Radford and Meagan Duhamel added another important distinction this week to a long list of career achievements: world figure skating champions.
The win capped a perfect season for the team. They won gold at every competition they entered in 2014-15.
Their final score at worlds was 221.53 points, seven points above Chinese team Sui Wenjing and Han Cong who won the silver medal with a score of 214.12. China’s Pang Qing and Tong Jian took the bronze with 212.77.
The last Canadian team to capture the gold medal at worlds was Jamie Sale and David Pelletier in 2001.
Next week Radford and Duhamel are coming straight from the most important competition of the season in Shanghai, China to Red Lake to spend time in the area and perform at the Balmertown Figure Skating Club’s year-end show April 3 and 4—the very club where Radford got his start over 20 years ago.
The public is invited to attend a meet and greet with Radford and Duhamel Thursday, April 2 at the Red Lake Legion (bar side) from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
