Barricades remained around Norseman Park earlier this week preventing pedestrian traffic after a body was found within its borders on Sunday morning.

Red Lake OPP confirmed Monday morning that officers were called to the Park at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Oct. 29 regarding a “deceased male.”

“Officers of the Red Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), North West Region Forensic Identification Unit, in conjunction with the OPP North West Region Crime Unit under the direction of Detective Inspector Darryl Sigouin OPP Criminal Investigation Branch are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death,” said the OPP said in a release on Oct. 30.

Friends of the victim confirmed late Monday the deceased was John (Jo Jo) MacDougall. The OPP say MacDougall was transported to Lake of the Woods District Hospital for a post mortem examination that was planned for Monday.

Police have not yet released cause of death, however, an increased police presence was noticeable along Howey Street and Highway 105 throughout the day on Oct. 30. They are asking any persons with information relating to this investigation to contact the Red Lake OPP Detachment (807)727-2418, the OPP Communication Centre at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477(TIPS).
