Do you have items sitting around your house that are in good condition, but you just don’t need any more? Do you think your neighbours would like to have them for their home?

Through June 3 and 4, Red Lake District residents are encouraged to participate in the Giveaway Weekend.

Place your unwanted items at the edge of your property with signs or stickers clearly labelling each item as ‘free’. It’s like a garage sale at every house, but there is no cost! Items not intended as give away should be placed out of sight, away from the road.

Suggested items to give away could be anything including books, furniture, clothes, small appliances, decorations, kitchen items, gardening tools, and fitness equipment. There is no limit or restriction on what can be given away, however residents should consider safety when deciding which items to set out.

The curbside giveaway will take place from Saturday at 8 a.m. through Sunday at 5 p.m. Items not collected are to be brought back to your home by the end of the event.

There are no organizations affiliated with this event, so it is up to each individual to act accordingly when putting items out and when taking others’ items. And for those who are searching for a treasure, remember to respect people’s property and traffic laws.

This is a win-win situation for people looking to get rid of items and those in search of a great deal. With space at the municipal dump becoming scarce, this is a also a way to give your reusable items a new home and keep them out of the landfill.
