Fundraising run honours local

On May 12, 2012 more than 60 people hit the road in Ear Falls to honour the memory of a lost friend and to raise money to support local families in need.

Organized by Giselle Kahoot, the Miles for Memories walk honours Kahoot’s sister Sherry Langlais Dearborn who lost her battle with cancer one year ago and saw participants walk or run a 5km or 10km course around the community guided by volunteers.

The walk/run began with participants gathering at the golf course to hear opening remarks from Mayor Kevin Kahoot as well as a warm-up session with veteran long-distance runner Missy Nelson.

"Warm-up"

“Miles for Memories organizers were determined to ensure that all funds raised remained in the Ear Falls/Red Lake area to assist cancer patients and their families,” said Mayor Kahoot after the event. “The first annual Miles for Memories Run was a huge success with $2,000 being donated to Jenn Nordby and her familiy. A big Thank You to all volunteers, participants and all those who donatated to a very worthy cause”

Giselle syas the idea of the fundraising for local families in need came from talking with her sister and the group expects the walk to become an annual fundraising event.
