Emergency response vehicles were on the move earlier this week as first responders were dispatched to the scene of a mock plane crash just off Nungasser Road.
On May 15 a multi-agency exercise was conducted to test the emergency response capabilities of first responders in the district. A 13 passenger Jetstar simulator equipped with smoke and sound capabilities was brought in for the exercise that reenacted a dual plane crash.
Red Lake District High School staff and students were tapped to play casualties. Airplane parts and personal items littered the site lending authenticity to the exercise.
More than 25 area responders were on the scene maneuvering around debris carrying out “actions, functions and responsibilities” that would be expected in a real emergency.
The scenario was conducted in an hour and a half and officials say a complete debrief will be held in the coming weeks to assess procedure and process.
