Patients in wheelchairs will now be able to remain in their chairs when being weighed thanks to a “unexpected donation”. The Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital confirmed last week $10,000 received from the John Andrews Foundation in Thunder Bay back in December 2016 was used to purchase both a wheelchair scale and CO2 insufflator. The scale has a 1000lb weigh capacity.  The C02 insufflator provides intra-luminal insufflation using carbon dioxide to minimize bowel distension and reduce patient discomfort during colonoscopies which hospital staff called “a great asset to our Endoscopy Program.” (seen here) Chief Nursing Executive Rebecca Ross demonstrating the scale’s use with Ward Clerk Stephanie Fulawka. – Photo Submitted
