Anna Tudela, Goldcorp corporate secretary and vice president of regulatory affairs, addresses a group of Goldcorp employees at a special dinner honouring the 76 graduates of the 2012 Creating Choices program on April 2.
Tudela founded Creating Choices as a way to encourage women to join the mining industry and to empower the women already there. The program focuses on development, training and mentoring for women employed in any and all departments at Goldcorp operations.
Graduates spoke about how the program has helped them realize their potential, build leadership skills and grow professionally. Two graduates currently working in the male-dominated mill and engineering departments said being young and female can be extra tough and that Creating Choices taught them to use strong language to stand behind and articulate their ideas.
Over 500 women have graduated from Creating Choices since it was launched in 2010.
