Residents of the district woke up to cold floors and water uncertainty on Jan. 1 after a downed tree caused a power outage that lasted for several hours.

Hydro One reported on Monday 2,125 customers lost power at 10:35 a.m for which a crew was dispatched from Dryden to assess and correct the cause. Crews discovered a tree had fallen across a main line and power was restored to all customers around 1:30 p.m.

Balmertown residents also reported losing water pressure Monday morning, which the Municipality confirmed later in the day was related to the power outage. A boil water advisory was issued for the community as a result of the power failure. Residents are encouraged to boil their water to remove potential bacteria that may cause illness.

The Municipality is encouraging those looking for information on how to care for their families or to continue running a business during the advisory to contact a Public Health Inspector through the Northwestern Health Unit.

The advisory remained in affect at press time.
