CCDC looking for Chukuni Business Awards nominations

The Chukuni Communities Development Corporation (CCDC) is asking residents to submit nominations for the inaugural Chukuni Business Awards.

The categories for the awards include: Business Supporting Youth, Home Based Business, Business Customer Service Excellence, Employee of the Year, Business of the Year (less than 25 employees), Business of the Year (more than 25 employees), and Citizen and/or Group of the Year.

“This is all part of our mandate to acknowledge and assist local entrepreneurs,” says Cathy Quesnel-Loessl, manager and business development coordinator at CCDC. “We felt it was important that our entrepreneurs were acknowledged for the work they do in the community.”

Nomination forms as well as criteria for each award category can be found at or by stopping at the CCDC office located at 137 Howey Street, Monday – Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Businesses in both the Red Lake and Ear Falls areas, which Quesnel-Loessl says total around 300, are eligible for appointment.

The deadline for nominations is Aug. 1.

The winners of the awards will be announced at the Royal Canadian Legion in Red Lake on Oct. 17. The evening will include a dinner, silent auction, awards ceremony, and speech by Ron Buist, marketing expert and inventor of “Roll Up the Rim to Win” at Tim Hortons.

“You don’t need to be a business to attend because it is a celebration of our local businesses and without the community support our businesses would be nothing,” notes Quesnel-Loessl.

Stayed tuned for more details in The Northern Sun News on the awards night and how tickets can be purchased.
